About Dior

Christian Dior founded his house in Paris in 1946, and his first collection, shown in February 1947, became known as the New Look. Cannage, the quilted pattern seen on many Dior bags, takes its cue from the woven chairs used at his first show.

The best-known bags include the Lady Dior, the Saddle and the Book Tote. Check the corners, the charms and hardware, and the condition of embroidered or canvas surfaces. Each listing states the condition grade and what comes with the piece.

Buying guide

What To Look At

General points worth checking on any Dior piece. Each listing adds the specifics: condition grade, what is included and any flaws.

  1. 01

On a Lady Dior, check the letter charms for scratches and the Cannage stitching for loose threads.

  2. 02

Embroidered canvas, as on the Book Tote, should be checked for pulled threads and marks.

  3. 03

Look at the corners and the base, where wear shows first.

Questions

Dior Answered

Why is it called the Lady Dior?

The bag was introduced in 1995 and renamed the Lady Dior in tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales, who carried it often.

How does Luxury Club authenticate Dior pieces?

Every piece is physically inspected by our specialists before it is listed: construction, hardware, materials and markings are checked against what is expected of the maker and the era. Nothing is approved from photographs alone, and every sale includes a Certificate of Authenticity documenting what was verified on that specific piece.
