About Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent founded his couture house in Paris in 1961 with Pierre Bergé. The interlocking YSL initials, designed by the graphic artist A.M. Cassandre that same year, still appear on many of the house's bags.

Saint Laurent bags range from quilted leather chain bags to soft suede and raffia shoulder bags. Look at the logo, the chain and the corners, where wear shows first. Each listing states the condition grade and what comes with the piece.

Buying guide

What To Look At

General points worth checking on any Saint Laurent piece. Each listing adds the specifics: condition grade, what is included and any flaws.

  1. 01

Many pieces carry the YSL logo in metal; check it for scratches and wear to the plating.

  2. 02

Suede, pony-effect leather and raffia are softer finishes that show wear more readily than smooth leather.

  3. 03

On chain bags, look at where the chain meets the bag, and at the corners.

Questions

Saint Laurent Answered

Is Saint Laurent the same house as Yves Saint Laurent?

Yes. The house was founded as Yves Saint Laurent in 1961; its ready-to-wear and accessories have been presented as Saint Laurent since 2012, and the YSL initials remain in the logo.

How does Luxury Club authenticate Saint Laurent pieces?

Every piece is physically inspected by our specialists before it is listed: construction, hardware, materials and markings are checked against what is expected of the maker and the era. Nothing is approved from photographs alone, and every sale includes a Certificate of Authenticity documenting what was verified on that specific piece.
